Who they are
Sigal Kraunik is the widow of Arik Kraunik, the security coordinator of Kibbutz Be’eri who was killed defending it on 7 October 2023, and has since become a public campaigner for the security of the western Negev. In public she uses the name Sigal Kraunik-Atia.
She grew up in Pardes Katz and studied at the Neve Sarah Herzog seminary. She moved to Kibbutz Be’eri, where she worked mainly as a payroll accountant and spent years working with children and young people, including youth at risk in the communities of the south. She later trained in NLP and resilience work.
On 7 October 2023 her husband fought the attackers at the kibbutz for hours before he was killed, while she and her daughter sheltered for 17 hours. Ofer Winter, who had driven south to join the fighting at Be’eri, was the officer who found his body that day. She has since lectured to military, community and business audiences across the country and taken up advocacy work. She now lives in Hatzerim, and in 2026 she joined Winter’s Amcha Israel.
Positions and record
Gaza: Campaigns for voluntary emigration from Gaza and says it should extend to Palestinians in Judea and Samaria: "if we do not do this now, reality will blow up in our faces and we will get another 7 October, this time in the heart of the country."
The war: "I want to go back to my home and there is no way around a decisive outcome." Says the fighting should continue until Hamas is defeated outright.
7 October responsibility: Rejects the language of abandonment while accepting failure: "the state failed, it did not abandon us. The army failed, it did not abandon us."
