Who they are
Shira Shapira is an architect and town planner who rose to deputy director-general of the Heritage Ministry. Her brief covered heritage in the Tekuma region along the Gaza border, and she led the government programme documenting and commemorating what happened there on 7 October 2023. She resigned the post to stand for the Knesset.
Her son Aner was killed that day at the roadside shelter near Re’im, throwing back grenades that were thrown into it.
